At M.J., we believe in continuous learning—and sharing that knowledge with others.
This summer, our experienced team members took time out of their busy schedules to work one-on-one with newer team members, passing along experienced knowledge of hands-on skills and valuable insights. It’s this spirit of mentorship that keeps our team strong and growing.
An M.J. team tip:
Summer is also the ideal season for pruning. As temperatures rise and the weather turns drier, many plants begin to “harden off,” making this the perfect window for shaping and maintaining plant health.
A few key pruning tips our team shared during training:
Know your goal. Before making any cuts, be clear about what you’re trying to achieve — whether it's shaping, encouraging growth, or removing dead wood.
Cut at an angle. Angled cuts heal faster and reduce the risk of disease.
Cut at the proper location. (Example: just above a bud or node, depending on the plant.)
Step back often. Look at the plant from a distance to make sure your cuts are helping create the desired shape.
Understand the plant. Will your cut encourage new growth? If so, how quickly and how much? Timing is key — make sure the plant has hardened off and isn’t actively flowering before pruning.
We’re proud of how our team continues to grow together—through the seasons, through learning, and through teaching.
