Meet Victor! 15 Years, Two Languages & One Great Teammate

If you've been around M.J. Design Associates long enough, chances are you've crossed paths with Victor.

Victor is one of the familiar faces who helps keep things moving around here, whether he's leading our cleanup crew, lending a hand to a coworker, or translating between English and Spanish during company meetings. (Something we're incredibly grateful for!)

But there's a lot more to Victor than what you see on the job!

From Mexico to M.J.

Born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, and raised in Durango, Mexico, Victor joined M.J. Design Associates 15 years ago as a crew member. Since then, he's worked his way into a leadership role, guiding our cleanup team and helping newer employees learn the ropes.

When we asked Victor what he enjoys most about his job, he didn't hesitate: "Teamwork."

And it's something he takes seriously.

One of his proudest accomplishments this year has been helping his crew understand their work and find easier, more effective ways to get things done. His philosophy? Share the knowledge and advice he wishes he'd received when he was starting out.

But Victor isn't stopping there! He hopes to become a manager someday, continue improving his English, and help more of his American coworkers learn Spanish. Between his leadership in the field and the countless conversations he helps translate at our company meetings, he's already making a pretty big difference.

Okay, But Who Is Victor Outside of Work?

For starters, his music taste might surprise you!

When Victor isn't working, you'll likely find him listening to heavy metal, watching anime, reading, or enjoying a good movie. His top three bands are Avenged Sevenfold, In Flames, and Lorna Shore. So if you ever get the chance to control the music in Victor's truck, you've been warned.

And while he's spent the last 15 years working in Ohio, there's plenty he misses about Mexico, especially his family, friends, and the food. When he heads back to Mexico over the winter, his priorities are simple: spend time with loved ones, celebrate, and squeeze in a game of soccer.

A Few Fun Facts About Victor

Favorite food: Pozole, a traditional Mexican soup or stew.

Favorite plant: Sweet shrub! (We had to ask. We are a landscaping company, after all.)

Favorite music: Heavy metal. See above for your next playlist recommendations!

Favorite things to do in Mexico: Spend time with family and friends, celebrate, and play soccer.

Something he values: Honesty. Victor isn't a fan of lies, and he's not afraid to say it!

What's Next for Victor?

More growth and more learning of course! But first, he is looking forward to spending the winter with his family back in Mexico before he comes back to the grind in Ohio.

After 15 years, we're proud of everything Victor has accomplished, but what we appreciate most is his willingness to help the people around him succeed. From sharing his experience with newer crew members to bridging language barriers across our company, Victor makes M.J. a better place to work.

And if you happen to see him out on a jobsite, be sure to say hello!

Thank you, Victor, for 15 years of hard work, friendship, and teamwork. We're lucky to have you!
