Halloween is full of fun, frights, and (let’s be honest) a mountain of candy wrappers. But once the sweet tooth settles down, what do you do with all those crinkly bits of plastic?
Here’s the trick: most candy wrappers can’t go in your regular recycling bin. They’re made of mixed materials, like plastic, foil, and paper, that are too tricky for normal recycling.
But here’s the treat: with the Hefty ReNew Orange Bag Program, those pesky wrappers don’t have to head to the landfill!
How It Works
Grab an official orange Hefty bag (you can find them at most grocery stores).
Toss in candy wrappers, chip bags, juice pouches, straws, and other “hard-to-recycle” plastics.
When your bag is full, tie it up and place it inside your Rumpke recycling bin with your regular recyclables. You can also drop it off at a local Recycling center. Check to see participating counties in Ohio!

Instead of haunting the landfill for hundreds of years, your candy wrappers can come back to life as something new!
Quick Tips
Only use the official orange Hefty bags
Keep cans, cardboard, and bottles loose in the bin
Save the orange bags for “tricky plastics” that normally can’t be recycled
This Halloween, when you’re done with the chocolate and candy corn, remember: the wrapper doesn’t have to be the scariest part.
